Colli Etruschi Viterbesi

With the name Colli Etruschi Viterbesi DOC or Tuscia DOC , Italian white , rosé and red wines (either dry or sweet and as frizzante ) are produced in the province of Viterbo ( Lazio region ). The wines have had a "controlled designation of origin " ( Denominazione di origine controllata - DOC) since 1996 , which was last updated on March 7, 2014.

Cultivation

The wines are produced in the following communities:

Viterbo (eponymous), Vitorchiano , Bomarzo , Graffignano , Celleno , Civitella d'Agliano , Bagnoregio , Castiglione in Teverina , Lubriano , Vetralla , Blera , Villa San Giovanni in Tuscia , Barbarano Romano , Vejano , Oriolo Romano , Monte Romano , Tuscania , Arlena di Castro , Tessennano , Canino , Cellere , Piansano , Ischia di Castro , Farnese , Valentano , Latera , Onano , Proceno , Acquapendente , Grotte di Castro , Gradoli , Capodimonte , Marta , Montefiascone , Bolsena , San Lorenzo Nuovo , Orte and Bassano in Teverina .

A variety of different types of wine are produced:

  • Colli Etruschi Viterbesi Bianco or Tuscia Bianco (dry or sweet or as frizzante ): must consist of 40–80% of the Trebbiano Toscano grape varieties (locally also called "Procanico") and a maximum of 30% Malvasia Toscana or Malvasia del Lazio . A maximum of 30% other white grape varieties approved for cultivation in the Lazio region may be added (individually or together).
  • Colli Etruschi Viterbesi Rosso or Tuscia Rosso (dry or sweet, as Novello or Frizzante): must consist of 20–45% Montepulciano and 50–65% Sangiovese grapes . A maximum of 30% other red grape varieties approved for cultivation in the Lazio region may be added.
  • Colli Etruschi Viterbesi Rosato or Tuscia Rosato (dry or sweet or as frizzante ): corresponds to the Rosso in the possible composition of grape varieties.
  • Furthermore, almost single-variety wines are produced in which the named grape variety must be at least 85%. A maximum of 15% of other analogous grape varieties that are approved for cultivation in the Lazio region may be added (for red wines with the exception of the Ciliegiolo grape variety ):
