from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Frascati is a well-known Italian white wine and a sparkling wine ( Spumante ) from the eponymous municipality of Frascati and other municipalities in the metropolitan city of Rome , part of the Italian region of Lazio . The wines have had the status of a "controlled designation of origin " ( Denominazione di origine controllata - DOC) since 1966 , which was last updated on March 7, 2014. The vines are grown on the volcanic slopes in the Campagna Romana area . It is a very old wine-growing region with an excellent reputation. In the city of Rome there were already 1,022 taverns documented in 1450, most of which were supplied by wine growers from Frascati. Today it is one of the most famous Italian white wines worldwide.
