List of grape varieties

The white wine variety Bellone is an autochthonous variety from Italy . The name is derived from bello , the Italian word for beautiful or pretty. The grape variety was probably already described by Pliny the Elder in his work Naturalis historia .

The late-ripening variety is now only grown in Lazio on an area of around 2500 hectares (as of 1998), where it is used in numerous Denominazione di origine controllata (DOC for short) wines such as Anzio , Cerveteri , Colli Lanuvini , Cori Bianco , Marino , Nettuno , Velletri and Zagarolo .

Origin: indigenous variety in Latium

Ampelographic varietal characteristics

In ampelography , the habitus is described as follows:

  • The shoot tip is open. It is hairy white wool with a slightly reddish tinge. The whitish-green young leaves are hairy with fine flames.
  • The large leaves are five-lobed and deeply indented (see also the article leaf shape ). The stem bay is lyren-shaped open. The blade is bluntly serrated. The teeth are medium-sized compared to the grape varieties.
  • The conical to cylindrical grape is large and shouldered. The round berries are medium to large in size and yellow in color.

Bellone is a variety of the noble grapevine ( Vitis vinifera ). It has hermaphroditic flowers and is therefore self-fruiting. In viticulture , the economic disadvantage of not having to grow male plants that produce yield is avoided.
