William Yiampoy

William Yiampoy ( William Oloonkishu Yiampoy ; born May 17, 1974 in Emarti near Kilgoris , Rift Valley Province ) is a Kenyan middle-distance runner who specializes in the 800-meter run .

At the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, he was eliminated in the semifinals. In 2001 he finished fourth at the World Athletics Championships in Edmonton and at the IAAF Grand Prix Final. In 2002 he was runner-up in Africa. In 2004 he was fifth at the World Indoor Championships in Budapest and Africa champion. At the World Championships in Helsinki in 2005 he won the bronze medal. In 2005 and 2006 he was fourth in the World Athletics Finals .

On August 24, 2006, together with Joseph Mwengi Mutua , Ismael Kipngetich Kombich and Wilfred Bungei, he set the current world record in the 4 x 800 meter relay race (7: 02.43 min).

Yiampoy is 1.83 m tall and weighs 70 kg. He is employed by the police presidential guard and lives in Ngong near Nairobi . His coach is Gianni Ghidini, his manager Gianni Demadonna .
