Aljaksej Uladsimirawitsch Baranau ( Belarusian Аляксей Уладзіміравіч Баранаў , Russian Алексей Владимирович Баранов / Alexei Vladimirovich Baranov * 6. April 1980 in Elektrostal , Russian SFSR ) is a former Russian - Belarusian ice hockey player and current coach, who for many years for various clubs of the Belarusian Extraliga was active. He has been a member of the HK Junost Minsk coaching staff since 2017 .
Career
Aljaksej Baranau began his career as an ice hockey player in his hometown in the youth department of Kristall Elektrostal . From there he moved to Krylja Sowetow Moscow , for whose professional team he made his debut in the Wysschaja Liga , the second Russian division, in the 1999/2000 season . Then the defender returned to his hometown club from Elektrostal, now renamed Elemasch, for which he also played in the Wysschaja League until 2003. He started the 2003/04 season at HK Keramin Minsk , for which he was active in the Belarusian Extraliga and the East European Hockey League . In the further course of the season he also came to appearances for the Russian second division clubs Kristall Elektrostal and Neftjanik Leninogorsk , as well as Chimik Woskressensk from the Russian Super League .
From 2004 to 2006 Baranau was in Belarus for one year with his ex-club HK Keramin Minsk and HK Brest under contract. He started the 2006/07 season at Metallurg Schlobin , but later returned to Keramin Minsk again. From 2007 to 2009 he played for HK Nyoman Hrodna . For the 2009/10 season, the left shooter moved to the Belarusian top club HK Junost Minsk , with which he was Belarusian champion straight away . In 2011 he won the IIHF Continental Cup at European level with Junost Minsk . In the final tournament, hosted by Junost Minsk, he scored a goal and an assist in three games and was elected to the All-Star Team of the final tournament. He also won the Belarusian championship title again with Junost. For the 2011/12 season he returned to his ex-club HK Njoman Hrodna.
Between 2012 and 2015 Baranau played again for Junost Minsk and won two more runners-up with the club before retiring. He then moved to the junior division of Junost as a coach and became assistant coach of the professional team in 2017.
