history

Culture House in Kurovskoye

Kurovskaya (then: Kurovskaya ) was first mentioned as a village in 1646. Today's city emerged from Kurovskaya and several other villages, including Spasskaya, which was known since the 1860s for a monastery founded there and partially preserved to this day.

An economic upswing began in Kurovskaya in the 1830s after a textile manufacture was established there for the first time. In the second half of the century it was already a large textile factory with over 600 workers. A settlement gradually formed around the plant, the importance of which increased with the relocation of the Lyubertsy - Arsamas railway in 1912.

The factory was nationalized by the new Bolshevik state power in August 1918 and burned down completely in 1923. It was rebuilt from 1929, and at the same time a workers' settlement for factory staff was built nearby. In 1952 the settlement received city rights.
