In 1901, with the construction of the Moscow - Kimry line , the place received a railway connection and a train station, which was named after the river Jachroma. The settlement later adopted this name. In 1940 it received city status. In the Battle of Moscow during World War II , Jachroma was fought over and from the night of November 28 to November 7, 1941 under German occupation. Not far from the city, near the village of Peremilowo, the German troops managed to capture a bridgehead on the eastern side of the Moskva-Volga Canal and hold it for a short time (from November 28 to 29, 1941).
