Vitali Wassiljewitsch Proschkin ( Russian Виталий Васильевич Прошкин ; born May 8, 1976 in Elektrostal , Russian SFSR ) is a Russian ice hockey player who was last under contract with HK Sochi in the Continental Hockey League .
Career
Witali Proschkin began his career in the junior division of Kristall Elektrostal . During the 1993/94 season he was at Keramik Elektougli before he made his debut for the professional team of his home club in the International Hockey League during the following season . At the same time he played for the second team of Kristall in the second-rate Wysschaja Liga . In the 1996/97 season he was a permanent member of the professional team and collected 8 points in 59 games this season. During the following season Proschkin moved within the Super League to HK Dynamo Moscow and took second place in the final tournament of the European Hockey League 1997/98 . At the end of the final round he reached fifth place in the Super League with Dynamo and second place in the first ever Super League cup competition.
In the 1998/99 season Proshkin took part in three competitions for Dynamo: the Superliga, the Wysschaja Liga and the European Hockey League (EHL). With the professional team of the club, he took second place in both the EHL and the Russian championship. A year later he won his first Russian championship title with HK Dynamo Moscow when the team beat Ak Bars Kazan 4-1 in the playoff final. Proschkin contributed to this success with 14 scorer points in 53 missions.
In the summer of 2000 Proshkin was signed by Ak Bars Kazan , but missed part of the following season due to an injury. In order to collect match practice, he was also used for two games in the club's second team, which played in the Pervaya League . With Kazan he then won the preliminary round of the Super League, but was eliminated in the playoff quarter-finals with 1: 3 wins against Lokomotive Yaroslavl . A year later he reached after second place in the preliminary round with Ak Bars the playoff final, in which this again defeated Lokomotive Yaroslavl with 0: 3. In the following years, Kazan reached the playoffs, but did not advance into the final. Only in the 2005/06 season this succeeded again: Kazan beat HK Awangard Omsk 3-0 and thus won the second championship title in the club's history. For Proschkin personally, it was also the season with the highest points of his career to date, with 34 scorer points. In the following season he even collected 47 scorer points and thus developed from defensive to offensive defender over the course of his career. He also won the IIHF European Champions Cup with Kazan in January 2007 and was elected to the all-star team of the competition at the end of the tournament .
In the summer of 2007 Proshkin moved within the Super League to Salawat Julajew Ufa , with whom he was again Russian champion in spring 2008. Three years later he was able to repeat this success with Ufa when he and his team defeated Atlant Mytishchi 4-1 in the final and won the Gagarin Cup .
In July 2014 he left Salawat Julajew after seven years and was signed together with teammate Sergei Zinoviev from HK Sochi . Shortly before the start of the season, both Proschkins and Zinoviev's contract was terminated. Proshkin has been without a club since then.
International
Proshkin played with the Russian national team at the 2003 , 2004 , 2005 , 2007 , 2008 and 2009 World Championships . In 2008 and 2009 he became world champion with Russia. He also took part in several tournaments on the Euro Hockey Tour .
