Raymond Unwin (born November 2, 1863 in Oxford , † June 2, 1940 in Lyme , Connecticut ) was an English architect and town planner .

After studying at Oxford, he opened an office in Buxton with Barry Parker in 1896 . The commission for the garden city of Letchworth (1903) made him the first architect of an English garden city. In 1907 the order for Hampstead followed . 1911–1914 he was a professor of urban planning at the University of Birmingham , and in 1914 he became chairman of the London Urban Planning Inspectorate.
