The Transpetrol GmbH was to 27 May 2015, international rail freight forwarding based in Hamburg , the majority of VTG AG belonged. The company has been dissolved since that date and the name Transpetrol is only used as a brand for the liquid goods business of VTG Rail Logistics Deutschland GmbH .

history

Transpetrol was founded in Hamburg in 1987. In 1992 VTG AG took over 51 percent of the shares from Deutsche BP AG ; the Kuehne & Nagel Beteiligungs AG held then 20 percent, another 29 percent remained with the BP. This BP share went to the then DB Cargo AG in 1998 , which sold it to VTG in 2002. After the Austrian subsidiary Transpetrol Austria GmbH had already been converted into VTG Rail Logistics Austria GmbH on October 1, 2014, the company decided on May 20, 2015 to merge Transpetrol GmbH with VTG Rail Logistics Deutschland GmbH.

The Transpetrol Group with its Europe-wide branches (subsidiaries in Poland, Austria and Italy) offered rail logistics concepts mainly for chemical and mineral oil transport.

A large part of these transport services were carried out with tank wagons . Transpetrol owned more than 2000 tank cars of its own for this purpose. In addition, there was the option of handling the transports using wagons provided by the customer. Transpetrol also worked with wagon rental companies.

The owners of Transpetrol were VTG Rail Logistics GmbH (74.9 percent) and Kühne & Nagel Beteiligungs AG (25.1 percent).
