The Pawelezer Bahnhof is both a long-distance and a regional train station. Long-distance train connections exist from here mainly to certain areas of southern Russia as well as to the middle and lower Volga region , such as Lipetsk , Novorossiysk or Astrakhan , and also to Baku (Azerbaijan). Local trains run from the Pawelets train station to Domodedovo Airport and other cities such as Widnoje or Kaschira .

The station is located in the southern part of downtown Moscow near the historic Samoskvorechye district and directly on the garden ring . It is connected to the Moscow metro network via the Paveletskaya station on the Samoskvorezkaya - and the Kolzewaya line station of the same name , and several tram and trolleybus lines stop near the station .

history

The company of the Ryazan-Ural Railway (Russian: Общество Рязанско-Уральской железной дороги ) in the Russian Empire managed most of the train connections in a total of 12 governorates . But these 12 governorates had no rail connection with Moscow, so the application was made to the government for the construction of a line from Moscow to Pavelets , a place (today an urban-type settlement in the Ryazan Oblast ) on the recently completed connection of the Ryazan-Ural Railway between the Ryazan  - Saratov and Smolensk line . In May 1897, Tsar Nicholas approved the construction of the line. This was then carried out under great time pressure, which reduced the construction time by eight months. But the line did not initially have its own train station in Moscow.

Today's Pawelezer Bahnhof was only built in the years 1898–1900 according to the construction plans of that time. Until then, the trains of the Ryazan-Ural Railway had to be temporarily dispatched at the Kursk station .

The entrance building, which is composed of bricks, was built according to a design by the architect A. Krassowski and consists of two to three floors. It was built with a total length of 83.7 m and a thickness of the foundation walls of 2.5 bricks; the outer surface of the walls was made of special bricks.

In addition to the facade of the station on the side of the railroad tracks, the offices, the rooms for the police and the exits to the platforms were set up. For that time, the station was very comfortably equipped, was planned and built rationally and had a heating system that was innovative for the time. The grand opening of the station took place on September 1st, 1900.

In 1987 the station was completely renovated again. At the same time, the capacity of the station has also been increased significantly: Today around 10,000 passengers can be handled here per hour.
