Dimitrios "Dimitris" Salpingidis ( Greek Δημήτριος Σαλπιγγίδης ; born August 18, 1981 in Thessaloniki , Greece ) is a former Greek football player . He played for PAOK Thessaloniki until 2015 .

Career

Dimitrios Salpingidis, who plays in the position of the striker at a height of 1.72 m , began his professional career in 1999 at the PAOK Thessaloniki club, which is based in his hometown . Since Salpingidis did not appear until the winter break, apart from a substitution in the first round of the UEFA Cup - he scored his first goal for the club - he joined the club, which was second-rate at the time, for six months in January 2000 AE Larisa on loan, where he had seven missions by the summer. After half a year at PAOK, in which the player only made two competitive appearances in the cup, Salpingidis was loaned out again. From January 2001 to the summer of 2002 he played for the northern Greek club AO Kavala.

At Kavala Salpingidis played in the starting line-up from the start and scored 25 goals in 43 competitive games. After this breakthrough in his career, he returned to PAOK in 2002 and from then on also played a key role here. He even became the captain of the team. The highlight of his engagement at PAOK was the 2002-2003 season, when Salpingidis and his team won the Greek Cup .

In the summer of 2006 Salpingidis finally moved to Panathinaikos Athens and caused a sensation in Greece. The main reason for this was the fact that, with Panathinaikos, AEK and Olympiakos, the "Big Three" of Greek football tried to meet their obligations. The total transfer fee of around five million euros was the highest sum that was paid for a Greek player who moved within the league. Salpingidis was under contract with Panathinaikos for four years, played in the UEFA Champions League for the first time and in 2010 won the Greek championship in addition to the cup.

In 2010 Salpingidis moved back to PAOK Thessaloniki. There he played for another 5 years until his contract was terminated in the summer of 2015.
