Niclas Alexandersson (born December 29, 1971 in Halmstad ) is a former Swedish football player . The more than a hundred times national player was mainly used as a midfielder on the right side. His strengths included his speed, his technique and his good passing game. His brother Daniel Alexandersson is also active as a soccer player, her father Lennart Alexandersson was a professional in the 1970s.
Alexandersson took part for the Swedish national team in two world and European championships and was twice Swedish national champion. In 1995 he was named Årets mittfaltare , the Swedish midfielder of the year.
Career
Alexandersson began his football career with Vessigebro BK before moving to Halmstads BK in 1987 . There he made his debut in the first team in 1989 and completed 161 league games for the club by 1995, scoring 29 goals. In 1996 Niclas Alexandersson moved to the top club IFK Göteborg , where he played 14 times in the Champions League.
In 1997 Alexandersson moved to England to Sheffield Wednesday , where he played until 2000. From 2000 to 2003 he then played for Everton and in the 2003/04 season briefly on loan at West Ham United . In total, he played 141 league games in England and scored 12 goals. In 2004 he returned to Sweden to his former club IFK Göteborg, where he is currently still active.
Niclas Alexandersson made his debut for the Swedish national team in 1993 in the international match against Austria . Since then he has played over 100 appearances in the national dress. Alexandersson was at the 2002 World Cup , the 2006 World Cup , and the 2000 and 2008 European Championships . He was also part of the Swedish selection for the 1992 Olympics .
On October 1, 2008 Niclas Alexandersson announced that he would leave IFK Gothenburg after the Swedish football season and end his football career.
