Daniel "Danne" Andersson (born August 28, 1977 in Borgeby ) is a former Swedish football player . The younger brother of the former Bundesliga player Patrik Andersson , who mainly acted as a defensive midfielder , won the Swedish championship twice and took part in four international tournaments with the Swedish national team.

Career

Andersson began his professional career in 1994 at Malmö FF in the Allsvenskan . The Swede made his national team debut on February 11, 1997 against Thailand . In the summer of 1998 he moved to Italy to Bari in the Serie A . There he played three successful years and also established himself in the squad of the national team, so that he was part of the squad at the 2000 European Championship . Between 2001 and 2004 there were less fortunate positions at AC Venice , AC Chievo Verona and Ancona Calcio . Although he still took part in the 2002 World Cup, he was not used and after the tournament was no longer part of the national selection.

In the summer of 2004 Andersson returned to his hometown club Malmö FF and was able to establish himself as a regular player in defensive midfield. With 11 season appearances he contributed to the Swedish championship title in the 2004 season . As a regular player he missed almost no game in the following years and played his way back into the national team. At the 2006 World Cup in Germany, he was back in the squad and came on a short stint when he was substituted on in stoppage time in the group game against England . He was also considered by national coach Lars Lagerbäck at the European Championships in 2008 .

After Sweden failed to qualify for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, Andersson announced on October 14, 2009 that he would end his career as a national player. Nevertheless, he remained active for Malmö FF and led - now in the position of defender - as team captain, the club in the 2010 season to the Swedish championship. At the side of Ulrich Vinzents , Jiloan Hamad , Guillermo Molins and Agon Mehmeti , he never missed a game of the championship and distinguished himself as a five-time goalscorer.
