Nikolaos "Nikos" Liberopoulos ( Greek Νικόλαος Λυμπερόπουλος , transcription also Lymperopoulos ; born August 4, 1975 in Kalamata ) is a former Greek football player .
Career
Nikolaos Liberopoulos began his career with the Greek fourth division club Erani Filiatron . After he rose with his team in the third division, he moved to the second division in January 1994 to AO Kalamata . At Kalamata Liberopoulos scored 20 goals in 78 games and in 1995 made it to the top Greek league. In the summer of 1996 Liberopoulos signed a contract with Panathinaikos Athens and came there in the following seven years on 186 first division games and scored 72 goals. Between 2003 and 2008 the striker was under contract with AEK Athens . Nikolaos Liberopoulos has 65 appearances and 13 goals with the Greek national team. For the 2008/09 season he moved to the Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt . On October 25, Liberopoulos scored his first Bundesliga goal in the game against Energie Cottbus . On November 9th, he scored his first double in the home game against VfB Stuttgart .
His expiring contract was not extended by Eintracht and it was officially adopted on May 1, 2010 before the home game against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim .
From 2010 to 2012 he played again in Greece for the Athens club AEK .
In early September 2009 Nikolaos Liberopoulos announced his immediate resignation from the national team. He was nominated for the squad again for the 2012 European Football Championship . He played his last game for the national team in the EM quarter-final against Germany. He then ended his career in the Greek national team.
