Vojtěch Christov

Vojtěch Christov (born March 16, 1945 in Vranov nad Topľou ) is a former Czechoslovak football referee .

Life

Christov attended high school in his hometown until 1964 and studied at the University of Economics in Bratislava from 1964 to 1969 .

Since 1968 he was a football referee and from 1974 he whistled in the 1st Czechoslovak League. Two years later he became a FIFA and UEFA referee.

Christov was active as a referee at four major events: He was a referee at the Olympic Games in Moscow in 1980 . In the same year he was in charge of the EC II final between Valencia CF and Arsenal London (0-0 aet and 5-4 on penalties). In 1982 he whistled a game at the 1982 World Cup in Spain , where he showed two yellow cards. At the European Football Championship in France in 1984 , he was allowed to whistle two games, including the final between France and Spain . He also directed a game at the 1986 World Cup in Mexico .

At club level, he headed a game in the European Cup in the 1979/80 season.

Christov had over 50 appearances at European Cup games. In 1980 he was used at the final of the European Cup Winners' Cup in Brussels. In 1983 he led the first leg of the UEFA Super Cup between Hamburger SV and FC Aberdeen . In 1992 Christov ended his referee career.
