Anders Frisk (born February 18, 1963 in Gothenburg , Sweden ) is an insurance salesman and was football referee for the world association FIFA from July 1991 to March 2005 .

His biggest tournaments were the 1996 European Championship in England , the Confederations Cup 1999 in Mexico , the 2000 European Championship in Belgium and the Netherlands , the 2002 World Championship in Japan and South Korea and the 2004 European Championship in Portugal. In total, he headed eight games at European Championship finals, including the 2000 final . No other referee has as many appearances at European Championships. In addition, Frisk directed numerous finals in international club competitions.

Along with the German Markus Merk and the Italian Pierluigi Collina , he was one of the best and most prominent referees in the world from the year 2000 onwards, and in the elections for World Referee of the Year he always took top places until the end of his career, in 2000 and 2001 second, 2004 third place.

Frisk made headlines when he had to break off the Champions League match between AS Roma and Dynamo Kiev at 0-1 in 2004 after being hit in the head by a lighter or a coin during half-time and bleeding Wound closed. After death threats against him and his family after the Champions League match between Chelsea and FC Barcelona on March 8, 2005 - Chelsea supporters blamed him for the 2-1 defeat in the first leg - Frisk ended his career as a referee with immediate effect. In 2005 he received the FIFA Presidential Award due to his resignation .
