Ozan Tufan missed the only big Turkish chance in the entire game when he headed Subašić in the 29th minute. The otherwise dominant Croatians took the lead before the break thanks to a long-range shot from Modrić. In the second half, Croatia failed to score despite numerous very good opportunities.

Spain were the superior team throughout the game, but for a long time found no means against the very defensive Czechs. Only in the closing stages did Piqué head a cross from Iniesta for the winning goal.
