Danijel Subašić (born October 27, 1984 in Zadar , SFR Yugoslavia ) is a Croatian football player . The goalkeeper was most recently under contract with AS Monaco . With the Croatian national team he was runner-up at the 2018 World Cup in Russia .
Career
societies
Subašić began his professional career at the Croatian club NK Zadar in the 2003 season. He moved to Hajduk Split in the 2006 season and played a few games in the Croatian 1st HNL league. Internationally, he played with Hajduk in the UEFA Europa League in the 2008/09 and 2010/11 seasons . During the winter break of the 2011/12 season, he moved to the French second division club AS Monaco , with whom he was promoted to Ligue 1 in 2013.
National team
Subašić made his debut on November 14, 2009 in a friendly against Liechtenstein in the Croatian national team ; previously he had played six games for the Croatian U-21 selection in 2006 . Subašić was appointed to the squad for the 2012 European Championship in Poland and Ukraine by national coach Slaven Bilić , but remained without a commitment.
After Stipe Pletikosa ended his national team career after the 2014 World Cup , Subašić moved up to the new number 1. In the successful qualification for the 2016 European Football Championship in France, he played all games and was then added to the Croatian squad . Even during the tournament he was a regular goalkeeper and stood between the posts in all four games until he was eliminated in the round of 16.
Subašić took part in the 2018 World Cup in Russia with the national team and became vice world champion. After the 2018 World Cup, he resigned from the Croatian national team.
