Olcay Şahan (born May 26, 1987 in Düsseldorf ) is a Turkish - German soccer player .

Career

In the club

He started at Fortuna Düsseldorf when he was six years old . He then played for three years in the youth division of Bayer 04 Leverkusen . In his second year as a youngster, he made the jump to the second team, with which he rose to the regional league. After a year, which Şahan played as a regular player, Borussia II rose again to the league , but rose again the following year, where the central midfielder was involved with twelve goals this season and even more assists.

When his hopes for a professional contract with Borussia were not fulfilled afterwards, Şahan switched to the second division team of MSV Duisburg in 2008 . He signed a one-year contract with MSV. He made his first appearance as a substitute there on the fifth match day. On the 13th matchday of the second division season 2008/09 he scored his first two professional goals in the game against Greuther Fürth ; MSV lost the game 3: 4. In April 2009 he extended his contract, which was running out at the end of the season, for another two years.

On April 18, 2011, Şahan was signed by 1. FC Kaiserslautern for the 2011/12 season. He signed a four-year contract. On the first day of the match he made his debut for FCK against Werder Bremen in the starting lineup. He scored his first Bundesliga goal on December 11, 2011 (16th matchday) in a 1-1 draw in the away game against Borussia Dortmund .

Şahan moved to Beşiktaş Istanbul on June 30, 2012 . He signed a four-year contract until June 30, 2016. With Beşiktaş, Şahan became Turkish champions for the first time in the 2015/16 season . In January 2017, Şahan moved to league rivals Trabzonspor .

National team

Şahan made his debut for the Turkish senior team on March 22, 2013 in a 2-0 win over Andorra. He scored his first goal for the national team on May 28, 2013 in a 3-3 draw against Latvia.

At the European Football Championship in France in 2016 , he was included in the Turkish squad . In the second game of the tournament, against defending champions Spain , he came into play in the last third when it was already 3-0. He was also a substitute against the Czech Republic, but it was 2-0 for his own team. Nevertheless, in the end, the goal difference decided that Turkey was eliminated despite the third place in the group.
