Salou Ibrahim (born May 29, 1979 in Kumasi , Ghana ) is a former Ghanaian - Belgian soccer player .
Career
In his home country Ibrahim played for the King Faisal Babes from Accra when he was young . At the age of 19 he came to Germany, where he played for TuS Wandsbek 1881 in Hamburg for two years. From 2000 he was active in Belgium. He played in the third division for KFC Turnhout . After licensing problems, he was forced to relegate to fourth grade and the club was renamed KV Turnhout. But after only one year, the Ghanaian striker rose again with the club in 2003, which he played a large part in with 10 goals in 16 games. The following year was also very successful for Salou and after 16 goals this season, second division KV Kortrijk noticed him and signed him for the 2004/2005 season.
With the move to the top Belgian league, Salou Ibrahim also took on Belgian citizenship. Although he had hoped for a call to the Belgian national team, in 2007 he was about to be called to the Ghanaian national team.
After he was able to successfully assert himself there with ten goals this season, his ascent continued and the first division promoted SV Zulte Waregem brought him into the Jupiler League . With him, the club won the Belgian Cup in 2006 . The top club Club Bruges then signed Salou Ibrahim. There he was able to repeat the cup win immediately, but the club only came in a disappointing sixth place in the championship and he himself could not meet expectations with only three goals this season. This continued in the 2007/08 season and a move abroad was initiated during the winter break, which failed at the last minute. That came in 2008 after a mixed season with 21 mostly short appearances and two goals.
In July 2008 the striker moved back to Germany to MSV Duisburg , relegated to the first division , where he received a two-year contract. Since he could not prevail in Duisburg, he went on loan to the Danish first division club Vejle BK during the winter break and was firmly committed after the season.
After convincing in a trial session with the New York Red Bulls in early March 2010 , he moved on 23/24. March to the club in the United States . He made his team debut for the Americans before signing his contract on April 20 in the friendly and opening game of the new Red Bull Arena in Harrison, NJ , when he was on the field from the start in the 3-1 win over FC Santos and was replaced in the 67th minute by John Wolyniec . The native Ghanaian made his competitive and league debut in Major League Soccer on April 10, 2010, when he came into play in the 54th minute for Seth Stammler in the 2-0 away defeat against CD Chivas USA .
From January 2012 he played six months for the Belgian first division club Oud-Heverlee Löwen . After that, he was only active in lower-class clubs until his retirement in 2017.
