In 2000 he continued his career with the soccer team at the University of Maryland at College Park . By the time he left university in 2003, he had played 87 games for the university football team, scoring eight goals.

MetroStars / RBNY

In the MLS SuperDraft 2004 Stammler was drafted in the second round as the 18th pick to the MetroStars . Before the 2004 season he injured his ankle so badly that he was out for the rest of the season and only made his professional debut at the end of the season with a four-minute short stint. In the following season 2005 Stammler came to ten missions, of which he was in three games from the beginning on the field. He then came in the 2006 season after the club was renamed from MetroStars to New York Red Bulls in all positions (except that of goalkeeper ). That same season he also scored his first goal when he scored a brace in a 5-4 win over CD Chivas USA on May 20. Over time, Stammler was able to establish himself more and more as a regular in the team and was on the pitch from the start of 29 games in 28 games in the 2007 season .

In September 2010 he announced that he would no longer want to be active after the 2010 season in order to change the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

Private

In November 2006, Stammler and his teammates from RBNY Jozy Altidore and Jerrod Laventure went on a six-day trip to Haiti , where they accompanied the American musician Wyclef Jean on his charitable project Yéle Haiti . Shortly thereafter, Stammler decided to found a similar organization himself and created the Sporting Chance Foundation (SCF) . The aim of the SCF is to provide the residents of Haiti with clean drinking water by building wells and to support the population in educational programs.
