The leaf blade is often weakly serrated in the upper area.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 20.

Occurrence

The shaggy milkweed occurs in warm temperate Europe in wet herbaceous vegetation and marsh meadows. In addition to Europe, it is also found in Algeria.

Its only occurrence in Germany , already known in ancient flora, is in the Passau district of Hals . This occurrence is completely isolated, the next localities are in Austria and Silesia . In the Botanical Garden in Munich , the plant was propagated from cuttings on behalf of the government and relocated to some inaccessible places in the Ilz valley .

In Austria, the downy milkweed occurs rarely on damp and wet meadows and bushes in the colline altitude . The occurrences extend to the federal states of Vienna , Lower Austria , Burgenland , Styria and Carinthia and this species is considered endangered in Austria.

use

The shaggy milkweed is rarely used as an ornamental plant for perennial beds and pond edges. The 'Clarity' variety has a yellow autumn color.
