Career

society

Skalák got his first professional contract with the Czech record champions Sparta Prague in 2010 , but was initially only used in the second team in the second division , for which he scored four goals in 30 games in three seasons. In August 2011 he was awarded to the Slovak first division club MFK Ružomberok . There he scored three goals in 27 games. At the beginning of the 2012/13 season he returned to Prague and played in seven first-team league games and was without a goal. In the UEFA Europa League 2012/13 , in which Prague reached the group stage, he appeared in seven games, but could not score there either. As second behind Olympique Lyon they reached the round of 16, where they failed at the eventual winners Chelsea FC . But since he no longer played for Prague, because on January 1, 2013 he was awarded to league rivals 1. FC Slovácko , for whom he could not score in nine games.

For the 2013/14 season he returned to Prague, but was awarded to league rivals FC Zbrojovka Brno after three games without a goal and the exit in the 2nd qualifying round of the 2013/14 UEFA Europa League . Here he scored three goals in 24 league games. In 2014/15 it was awarded to the direct competitor FK Mladá Boleslav . With Boleslav he failed in the UEFA Europa League 2014/15 in the third qualifying round, after he had contributed to advancement with two goals in the second qualifying round against NK Široki Brijeg . In the cup he reached the semifinals with Boleslav, but failed there at FK Baumit Jablonec . After 24 league games with six goals and fourth place in the final accounts, he was completely taken over in 2015. In the following year, however, after 16 league games with six goals and the end in the second qualifying round of the 2015/16 UEFA Europa League, he was given up to the English second division side Brighton & Hove Albion . With the "Seagulls" he just missed direct promotion to the Premier League in third place and then failed in the promotion playoff semifinals on Sheffield Wednesday sixth . A year later, he was able to move up to the Premier League with the club as second in the EFL Championship 2016/17 .

National team

Skalák went through all Czech junior teams from the U-16. With the U-19 team, he survived the first qualifying round for the U-19 European Football Championship 2010 in September 2009 , but in May 2010 the Czechs failed in the second qualifying round to Italy . The Czechs were more successful in the two qualifying rounds for the U-19 European Football Championship 2011 and in the final round they only lost the final in extra time with 2: 3 against record winners Spain .

With the U-21 team, he took part in the U-21 European Football Championship in 2015 in his home country, but the team was eliminated in the group phase and thus also missed participation in the 2016 Olympic Games .

In September 2015 he played his first international match against Kazakhstan in qualifying for the Euro 2016 . He was in the starting line-up, but was replaced in the second half when the score was 0: 1 and his teammates managed to turn the game around. In the next game against Latvia he only sat on the bench, but was used again in the last two games in which the Czechs qualified for the European Championship finals. He was also used in the following friendly matches, but has so far not scored a goal.

On May 19, he was appointed to the provisional EM squad with 28 players and then also considered for the final squad. His only European Championship appearance was in the second game against Croatia, in which he was in the starting line-up, but was replaced when he was 2-0 down in the final third. The team did not survive the group stage.

In the qualifying games for the 2018 World Cup following the European Championship , he was only used in the first four games, where he was substituted on and off twice. Since the Czechs no longer have a chance to qualify for the World Cup after eight games, he is initially unable to participate.
