The Go-Ahead Transport Company Germany GmbH ( GAVD ) is the Go-Ahead belonging Corporation railway company based in Berlin . It was founded on January 28, 2014.

history

At the end of 2015, the company won the tender from the Baden-Württemberg local transport company (NVBW) for the operation of the two subnets 1b "Rems-Fils" (lot 2) and 1c "Franken-Enz" (lot 3) for the period from June 2019 to 2032 .

In May 2016, GAVD ordered 45 Stadler Flirt 3 from Stadler Pankow , which were designed in the national design of the NVBW and equipped with sockets and intrain repeaters . They offer internet access via WLAN for use by passengers. They each have a first-class area with 9 seats at both ends and contain 164, 216, 272 or 328 second-class seats. 11 three-part and 15 five-part multiple units were ordered for lot 2, as well as 9 four-part and 10 six-part multiple units for lot 3. The vehicles for this sub-network "Franken-Enz" are equipped with LZB and prepared for ETCS . In December 2016, the original order was increased by two three-, four five- and four six-car multiple units in order to be able to offer greater seating capacity for both lots. The trains that were re-ordered could not be completed for the start of operations in June 2019.

The company intended to participate in the tender for the Elbe-Spree network that was launched in November 2017. The decision on this tender was made in early 2019. On the other hand, the competitors DB Regio Nordost and Ostdeutsche Eisenbahn won the bid for the lots awarded .

According to the company, Go-Ahead will operate rail networks in Germany with a total of around 20 million train kilometers from 2022.

After some massive problems on the Frankenbahn in Baden-Württemberg, the company announced on June 8, 2020 that the previous managing director Stefan Krispin would be replaced on June 12, 2020. The replacement also affects the two operating companies in Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria. Interim management was carried out by Elodie Brian and Charles Hodgson.

Since July 2020, Max Kaiser has been employed as commercial director and Gordon Lemke as technical director in Baden-Württemberg.

Go-Ahead Baden-Württemberg GmbH , based in Stuttgart, was founded on April 10, 2017 for activities in Baden-Württemberg .

The trains are maintained in a new depot at Essingen station (near Aalen). Together with the installation of a washing facility and individual tracks, investments of 17 million euros were planned. Go-Ahead Facility GmbH was founded in December 2016 to build and operate them . According to a contract signed in May 2017, Stadler will initially take over maintenance for 13.5 years. The planning approval decision of the regional council of Stuttgart was issued on December 18, 2017. Now 19 million euros should be invested. The construction work should be completed in May 2019, but at that time the external cleaning system was still missing.

On September 4, 2017, the company was awarded the contract to operate the Baden-Württemberg 3a " Murrbahn " network (Stuttgart - Schwäbisch Hall-Hessental - Crailsheim - Nuremberg) in the period from December 2019 to December 2032. On February 16, 2018 signed the transport contracts with the NVBW and the Bavarian Railway Company (BEG), which total 1.38 million train kilometers per year . Stadler Flirt3 XL vehicles are planned, which should be optimized for a platform height of 76 cm. On September 6, 2017, Stadler Rail received an order for the delivery of 11 FLIRT vehicles for the Murrbahn. The three-part vehicles have longer car bodies and are equipped with wider entrance doors.

In May 2019, the Federal Railway Authority issued the commissioning permits for the three- to six-part Flirt multiple units of the first commissioning stage in the Stuttgart network.

When it was used from June 9, 2019, however, numerous technical problems arose; In addition, the time was too short to train sufficient staff, so that delays and train cancellations increased. Individual services were taken over by DB Regio, others were permanently canceled. A stabilization could only be achieved in October 2019.

In May 2020 it became known that the Ministry of Transport, in cooperation with GoAhead, was looking for a new operator for the Frankenbahn for a limited period of two years.

GAVD has commissioned DB Vertrieb to operate the ticket machines .

The company plans to employ around 300 people in Baden-Württemberg.

Go-Ahead Bavaria

On August 3, 2018, the company received another operator award in the "Allgäu Electric Network". From December 2021 to December 2033, Go-Ahead will be on the road with new Stadler FLIRT 3 vehicles on the Munich - Buchloe - Memmingen - Kißlegg - Hergatz - Lindau Insel - Lindau-Reutin route.

On December 7, 2018, the company was awarded the contract for Lot 1 of the Augsburger Netze by the BEG. Lot 1 comprises the Ulm - Augsburg - Munich, Würzburg - Ansbach - Treuchtlingen - Donauwörth - Augsburg and Aalen - Nördlingen - Donauwörth axes.

For the two transport contracts in the Free State of Bavaria, Go-Ahead Bayern GmbH , based in Augsburg, was founded on March 21, 2019 and moved into an office in Augsburger Bahnhofstrasse in July 2019. A maintenance base is to be built north of Gablingen train station in the Langweid-Foret industrial park for 25 million euros .

Go-Ahead Germany has ordered 12 five-part Siemens Desiro HC and 44 three-part Siemens Mireo for lot 1 of the Augsburger Netze . The electric multiple units worth 389 million euros are leased for a term of 27 years. Both vehicle types can be flexibly coupled with one another in order to be able to respond optimally to demand.

criticism

Go-Ahead is repeatedly criticized for a number of deficiencies. Criticisms include failed or overcrowded trains, staff shortages due to poor planning, technical disruptions and unreliable information transfer to passengers. At the request of the district administrator of the Rems-Murr-Kreis Richard Sigel , the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Transport , under the direction of the Minister of Transport Winfried Hermann ( Greens ), will compensate commuters for failed and insufficient services. On request, passengers should receive a one-off compensation that corresponds to the equivalent of a monthly ticket or a subscription rate. Arno Luik , author of the bestseller “Damage in the overhead line”, said of Go-Ahead that it was considered the worst of all train operators in their home country, England.
