The Ostalb Mobil GmbH (OAM) coordinates the public transport in the Ostalbkreis and cooperates with the county and the municipalities. OstalbMobil replaced the tariffs of the following two previous tariff groups:

history

The introduction of a district-wide fare cooperation in the Ostalb district, originally planned for August 2006, has been postponed several times, first due to competition law complications in the tendering of ticket printers, then due to delays in the development of new chip cards and reading devices. The name OstalbMobil was then determined.

In the end, the joint tariff , initially known as the county-wide fare cooperation OstalbMobil , started with the timetable change on December 9, 2007 as a cooperation between the Ostalbkreis and all transport companies in the Ostalbkreis. OstalbMobil was initially not a real transport association, as originally there was no association, but the Aalen district office was responsible. In principle, passengers in the Ostalbkreis initially had the option of choosing between the tariffs of the three predecessor associations or the in-house tariff of Deutsche Bahn AG and the new OstalbMobil tariff. On most routes, however, the OstalbMobil tariff was cheaper.

It was only with the establishment of the Verbundgesellschaft OstalbMobil GmbH on July 9, 2015 and the signing of the cooperation agreement with the Ostalb district on July 23, 2015 that the conversion from a fare cooperation into a real transport association was completed. Around 20 million passengers use the transport network every year.

Association tariff

In total, all 20 bus line operators and DB Regio were collectively united through the establishment of OstalbMobil . This does not apply to rail transport on InterCity line 61, for which the DB Fernverkehr AG tariff continues to apply.

In some municipalities, even after the conversion into a real association, separate tickets are still offered, which are only valid in the area of the respective municipality; so z. B. the environmental card , which is valid on all buses within the urban area of Aalen. Short-distance tickets are also offered in Hüttlingen , Lorch and Schwäbisch Gmünd .

OstalbMobil is part of the scope of the Stuttgart Metropolticket .

Network area and tariff zones

The network area extends over an area of 1512 square kilometers and is therefore in the middle of the range of Baden-Württemberg network tariffs in terms of area; Around 311,000 people live in the tariff area. There are 205 tariff zones, the division of which was essentially taken over by the transport associations FahrBus Gmünd , Verkehrsgemeinschaft Aalen and FahrBus Ellwangen . The affiliation of the respective sub-areas can be easily recognized from the different number groups of the OstalbMobil tariff zones. The OstalbMobil tariff area is being expanded to include transitional tariff areas in a total of eight places ; these include Matzenbach , Stimpfach and Bühlertann in the Schwäbisch Hall district , Nördlingen and Dinkelsbühl in Bavaria , Maitis and Weißenstein in the Göppingen district, and Alfdorf in the Rems-Murr district .

Shareholder

technology

OstalbMobil offers passengers a chip card system as a means of payment, with which a 20 percent discount is granted on single trips. It is based on the VDV core application . This map should also be used in the future in the neighboring districts KreisVerkehr Schwäbisch Hall and Heilbronner Verkehrsverbund ; in the future throughout Germany. As a result of this pioneering role, the state of Baden-Württemberg contributes 1.13 million euros to the investment costs as well as the running costs.

criticism

  • The predominant retention of the old tariffs leads in the beginning to a situation that is difficult to understand, in which different tariffs compete directly with one another in a very small space. For example, even when traveling by train without changing between bus and train or vice versa, sometimes the DB tariff is cheaper and sometimes the OstalbMobil tariff is cheaper.
  • With the OstalbMobil tariff, no day tickets were initially offered.
  • Since January 1, 2009, the Baden-Württemberg ticket has also been valid on the buses in the Ostalb district and is also available there.
  • No cycling maps are offered as part of the OstalbMobil tariff . According to Deutsche Bahn, however, holders of OstalbMobil and DB tickets can take bicycles with them free of charge from Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. (all day Saturday, Sunday and public holidays), but not on the Rammingen – Aalen route. This regulation also applies in the neighboring Verkehrsverbund Stuttgart (VVS) and at the Schwäbisch Hall roundabout, so that bicycles can be taken free of charge on local trains beyond the district boundaries.
  • Until the end of 2013, there was no direct transfer option to the neighboring VVS transport association. Passengers who drove across the "composite gap" between Waldhausen and Plüderhausen still required up to three different tickets per journey (public transport at the starting point, train across the network border, public transport at the destination). The introduction of the OstalbMobil tariff did not improve this customer group. This situation no longer exists since January 1, 2014 due to the expansion of the VVS to Lorch.
  • With the OstalbMobil tariff there are 205 tariff zones in a very small space, for example there are zones in which there is only one bus stop. When driving in the inner areas of the district towns of Aalen, Ellwangen and Schwäbisch Gmünd, additional inner-city zones must also be counted.
