The OVA Omnibus-Verkehr Aalen Dipl.-Ing. Rau GmbH + Co. KG operates city traffic in Aalen as well as overland lines in Bopfingen and the surrounding area.

history

On May 21, 1927, a bus line was set up from Unterkochen via Aalen to Wasseralfingen. After the operating company went bankrupt in 1931, Max Rau took over the operation of the line. After the end of the war and Rau's death in 1945, his family resumed bus service with two of the former nine buses. The line network was expanded and from 1952 excursions were also offered.

Friedel Rau, Max Rau's son, took over management in 1961. From 1972 to 1997 he was chairman of the WBO , from 1974 to 1986 chairman of the GBK and from 1981 to 1995 president of the BDO .

After the acquisition of the companies Kauffmann and Götz and their lines, the second depot of the OVA was built in Bopfingen in 1977. In 1984, the Lauchheim-Lippach line was added there through the takeover of Weizmann & Schick.

With the establishment of the subsidiary OVA + REISEN GmbH in 1989, OVA further expanded its range of bus tours.

In 1989 Ulrich Rau, son of Friedel and Henriette Rau, joined OVA. Since 2005 he has been a public transport advisor on the WBO board. Ulrich's brother Peter Rau joins the OVA company in 2000.

In 2007 OVA is a founding member of OstalbMobil , the tariff cooperation for the entire Ostalb district .

Lines

OVA operates 40 bus routes in the city of Aalen and 9 bus routes in the city of Bopfinen.

Vehicle fleet

OVA double-decker bus

With the double-decker buses introduced in 1966, OVA owned the largest public service buses in Europe at the time. Along with Berlin and Lübeck, Aalen was one of the only three German cities for decades in which many double-deckers were used in regular service.

In 1996 the manufacturer Neoplan developed the “Aalen type” (N 4026/3 L) together with the OVA, of which eleven copies were delivered. The double-deckers are 13.7 meters long and have 102 seats. The first of the new "Aalen 2" double-decker buses developed by OVA in cooperation with Viseon have been in service since May 2011 . They have 95 seats and a 400 HP 6-cylinder engine from MAN .

Since 2000, OVA has also been purchasing standard low-floor buses, the Citaro from Mercedes-Benz , and since 2007 also 12 OmniLink buses from Scania - 7 of which are three-axle vehicles with a length of 13.7 m and a license for 115 passengers. A CapaCity articulated bus has been part of the OVA fleet since 2009 .

An old English red Bristol-Lodekka double-decker, built in 1968, is also owned by the OVA. Since this is a right-hand drive, it is not used in regular services. The second old-timer bus - also a right-hand drive - is a " Saurer 2SC" coach from 1956 with an electric folding sunroof and roof edge glazing.
