The Federal Association of German Omnibus Entrepreneurs (bdo) sees itself as the leading association of the German bus industry and represents the interests of private and medium-sized companies in the field of local public transport , bus tourism and long-distance transport to politics and the public. The association was founded in Bonn in 1980 . Today's seat is Berlin .

In terms of organization and content, the bdo relies on 18 regional associations and their member companies in its work. In committees, strategies and recommendations to promote the profitability and efficiency of private bus operators are developed. The association then promotes the interests of the private bus industry to the public and politicians. At the international level, the bdo is involved as a member of the International Road Transport Union (IRU).

The board consists of eight members who are elected by the general assembly for a period of three business years. The members of the board are active on a voluntary basis. The Presidium consists of the President and two Vice-Presidents. The members of the executive committee are elected by the general assembly. In the Berlin office, nine employees work full-time for the bdo.

Association purpose

The federal structure of the BDO - supported by 18 regional associations - enables companies to have a relative say in the formulation and articulation of their interests vis-à-vis the media, politics and consumers. In coordination with the regional associations, strategies and recommendations to promote the profitability and performance of private bus companies are to be developed and specified. The various committees of the BDO, which meet regularly, should also be of particular importance. They are intended to point out current developments in the private bus industry and define targets and instructions that the BDO should then implement.

External impact

The association offers - analogous to the Bundesverband Güterkraftverkehr Logistik und Abfall e. V. (BGL) in the transport sector  - lobbying for bus companies and providing information on new legal requirements such as driving and rest time regulations, social regulations, traffic law judgments and the like.
