The Puente Romano ( Spanish "Roman Bridge") in the Spanish city of Córdoba , also called Puente Viejo (Spanish "Old Bridge"), is a bridge built by the Romans after the Battle of Munda (45 BC) the Guadalquivir . It has 16 arches and was once part of the Via Augusta . In the 10th century, the building was completely renovated by the Moorish caliphs residing in Córdoba and renovated several times after the Reconquista .
The Torre de la Calahorra at the end of the bridge facing away from the old town was built in the Middle Ages as a watchtower for the bridge. Today it houses a museum of the Roger Garaudy Foundation , which deals with the coexistence of different religions during the time of the Caliphate. In the middle of the bridge there is a statue of the Archangel Raphael from the 17th century.
