Greinbach is a municipality with 1820 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in the judicial district of Fürstenfeld and in the political district of Hartberg-Fürstenfeld in Styria in Austria .

geography

Geographical location

Greinbach is located approx. 3 km northwest of the district capital Hartberg and approx. 40 km northeast of the provincial capital Graz . The district of Penzendorf has grown together with Hartberg. The community belongs to the Joglland , a low mountain range at the transition from the Eastern Styrian hill country to the border mountains east of the Mur . It is located directly east of the Pöllauer Tal nature park .

Greinbach is drained by the stream of the same name and its tributaries, which are ultimately fed to the Hartberger Safen .

Community structure

Greinbach is named after the stream of the same name. There is no place with this name. The community consists of three cadastral communities and towns of the same name (residents as of January 1, 2020):

  • Penzendorf (905 Ew.) With Neudorf and Penzenberg
  • Staudach (828 Ew.) With Aigen, Bacherhöf, Fünfhöf, Greinbach, Greith, Hochwarth, Hofstätt, Lämberhöf, Point, Pollethöf, Rauchegg, Sallegg, Schwaig and Siebenbirken
  • Wolfgrub (87 Ew.) With Mairhof

Parish consolidation

On January 1, 1968, the formerly independent communities Penzendorf and Staudach were merged to form the new community Greinbach.

Motorsport

Internationally known Greinbach was the so-called PS Racing Center , a permanent race track that already has multiple races for FIA Rallycross - European Championship were held.

Economy and Infrastructure

Greinbach is off the main roads. The change road B 54 from Hartberg to Wiener Neustadt leads through the eastern municipality. The south autobahn A2 from Vienna to Graz is about seven kilometers away and accessible via the Hartberg junction (115).

The municipality of Greinbach does not have its own train station. The nearest train station is in Hartberg, about five kilometers away. It provides access to the Thermenbahn with two-hour regional train connections to Vienna and Fehring .

Established businesses

A sawmill is located in Höfstätt . In addition to a large discotheque , the Greinbach industrial area also houses several construction companies (transport, construction, metal), service companies (including IT service providers), a racing track and several restaurants.

Public facilities

The elementary school, the kindergarten and the chapel of Staudach are located in Greith. The building yard of the municipality of Greinbach is located in Bacherhöf. The Penzendorf chapel, built in 1995 and dedicated to St. Bernhard, is located in Penzendorf.

The Penzendorf Volunteer Fire Brigade is located in Penzendorf and is responsible for the entire Greinbach community. It consists of 100 members and is equipped with three vehicles (RLF-A 2000, KLF-A and MTF-A) according to the equipment guidelines of the LFV Steiermark. The commander is Chief Fire Inspector HBI Martin Gwandner. The deputy is Chief Fire Inspector OBI Manfred Ertl.

Matthias Kratzmann ( ÖVP ) has been mayor of the municipality since August 9, 2019 . He succeeded Siegbert Handler (ÖVP), who was in office for around 26 years and stepped down on July 31, 2019.

The community board also includes Vice Mayor Josef Berghofer (ÖVP) and community treasurer Christian Kirchsteiger (ÖVP).
