history

Hinteregg

The local area of Hinteregg was already settled in the Stone Age, which is proven by the discovery of a stone ax . The place was first mentioned in 1386 as Chalegg . In the course of time the name changed via Khallekh (1475) and Kalchegg (1527) to the current name, which is first recorded in 1703. The original name is derived from the word Kallen (causing noise), which came from a fortification that protected the transition from Safen to Feistritztal and which was first mentioned in 1332.

The award of fiefs to the Lords of Herberstein in 1424 led to the town being split up. At the beginning of the 16th century, clearing resulted in numerous individual farms around the manor in Dreihöf.

Schönau

Schönau initially developed in the same way as Hinteregg, before Hans von Stubenberg and the Markt Pöllau sold it to Heinrich von Neidberg in 1459 , who wanted to use it to found the Pöllau Abbey , but this did not happen until 1504. Schönau was first mentioned in 1332 as In der Schöne Au . In 1396 a stone mill was built here. Even then, the slopes in Schönau were used for viticulture .

Winzendorf

Winzendorf, east of the Pöllauer Safen, was first mentioned in a document in 1318. In 1325 the little friend's village ("Vinizzo") was sold to the pastor of Pöllau and finally came to the Pöllau monastery.
