Sonnhofen is a former municipality with 1030 inhabitants (as of October 31, 2013) in Eastern Styria in the judicial district of Fürstenfeld and in the political district of Hartberg-Fürstenfeld . As part of the Styrian municipal structural reform , the municipality was incorporated into the municipality of Pöllau with the municipalities of Rabenwald , Saifen-Boden and Schönegg bei Pöllau from January 1, 2015 . The basis for this was the Styrian Municipal Structural Reform Act - StGsrG.

Geographical location

Sonnhofen is located in the north of the Pöllauer Tal nature park, approx. 15 km northwest of the district capital Hartberg and approx. 35 km northeast of the provincial capital Graz . The municipality belongs to the Joglland , which forms part of the peripheral mountains east of the Mur . The community is drained by numerous tributaries of the Pöllauer Safen , the most important of which are the Prätisbach in the east and the Köppelreithbach in the west of the community.

Since Sonnhofen is located in the branching head of the valley, the community is surrounded by numerous peaks in the north. The highest here (clockwise from west to east) are the Wolfgrube ( 966  m ), the Wachholz ( 1030  m ), the Filzmoosberg ( 1085  m ) and the Hintereck ( 1081  m ), which is accessible with ski lifts . The Sternbauerkogel ( 707  m ) protrudes to the south .

Community structure

The community of Sonnhofen was made up of two cadastral communities (KG) or localities of the same name:

  • KG Köppelreith (413 Ew., 894.84 ha) forms the western part of the community
  • the KG Prätis (623 Ew., 1,246.59 ha) the eastern part.

In addition to numerous individual locations, the Köppelreithsiedlung is a district of Köppelreith, districts of Prätis are Baumgart, Klauber, Krughöf, Oberprätis, Prätis settlement, Stadt, Straßhöf and Unterprätis.

After the last municipal council election in 2005, Gottfried Arzt (ÖVP) remained mayor despite the major loss of his party's vote. Franz Kernbichler (ÖVP) was mayor from spring 2008 until the end of 2014.

The municipal coat of arms was awarded with effect from June 25, 1999.

Regional policy

Sonnhofen is a member of the Pöllauer Tal nature park community association , and with this in the LEADER region of the Eastern Styrian heartland . Dec. 7, 2010 the Pöllauer Tal nature park was also constituted as a Regionext small region . On the occasion of the municipal structural reform in Styria 2010–2015 , Sonnhofen will probably merge with all 4 other municipalities in the small region.

Economy and Infrastructure

Sonnhofen is located off the main roads on Schloffereckstraße L 406, which connects Pöllau with Vorauerstraße L 405, which in turn leads from Vorau to Birkfeld . Here is Weiz Street B reaches 72nd Sonnhofen is relatively far away from the autobahns, the nearest junction Hartberg (115) of the south autobahn A2 is approx. 25 km.

There is no train station in Sonnhofen and the surrounding area.

Culture and sights

Museums

The Folklore Museum Sonnhofen offers an insight into "Grandmother's times". It was founded in 1990 by the retired freight forwarder Johann Krogger in the no longer needed garages and includes numerous historical and folkloric objects that Krogger has collected over the past 40 years.

Sports

Sonnhofen has a soccer field and a tennis court. One of the most modern bowling facilities in Styria is also located here .
