Book-St. Magdalena is a municipality in the judicial district of Fürstenfeld or Hartberg-Fürstenfeld district in Styria in Austria . It was created as part of the Styrian municipal structural reform through the amalgamation of Sankt Magdalena am Lemberg and Buch-Geiseldorf on January 1, 2013.

Geographical location
Book-St. Magdalena is located in the thermal region of the east Styrian hill country about seven kilometers south of the district capital Hartberg and about 40 km east of the provincial capital Graz . The Hartberger Safen flows through the municipality from north to south . In the west, the community is bounded by the Dombach, which a short time later flows into the Hartberger Safen. Book-St. Magdalena lies on the western edge of an extensive forest area.

Incorporation and amalgamation of municipalities
The former municipality of Buch was founded in 1850 from the two current cadastral municipalities of Oberbuch and Unterbuch . In 1959 it was merged with the municipality of Geiseldorf to form the municipality of Buch-Geiseldorf .
In 1969, the municipality of Buch-Geiseldorf was given the current cadastral municipality of Unterdombach by the municipality of Wenireith when the latter became part of the municipality of Hartberg surroundings .
On January 1, 2013, Buch-Geiseldorf was united with Sankt Magdalena am Lemberg to form the first newly created community in Styria (Buch-St. Magdalena) on the occasion of the municipal structural reform 2010–2015 .

The south autobahn A2 runs through the municipality, but has no junction in this area. The nearest junction is Sebersdorf / Bad Waltersdorf (exit 126). The Wechsel Straße B 54 from Hartberg to Gleisdorf can be reached via the neighboring town of Hartberg.
The thermal railway runs through the municipality, but has no stop here. Since the Buch and Geiseldorf stops are no longer served, the nearest train station is in Sebersdorf, about five kilometers away. It offers regional train connections to Vienna and Fehring every two hours .
The Graz Airport is about 65 km away.

In Sankt Magdalena there is the VS St. Magdalena am Lemberg (founded in the early 18th century, 2013 Meistersinger for the school choir)

mayor
In the constituent meeting of the municipal council in April 2015, Mayor Gerhard Gschiel (ÖVP) was confirmed in his office. Gschiel headed the municipality of St. Magdalena am Lemberg before the merger and was also appointed government commissioner until the new elections in April 2013 .
The municipality board also includes the vice mayor (ÖVP) and the municipal treasurer (ÖVP).
Municipal council
The municipal council consists of 15 members and, after the 2015 municipal council election, was composed of mandataries from the following parties (in brackets the comparison with the first joint municipal council election in 2013):
Local partnerships
St. Magdalena has been partnered with Schmalegg , a town in the city of Ravensburg ( Baden-Württemberg , Germany ) since 1977 . The new church took over this partnership.
coat of arms
The municipality was given a coat of arms with effect from April 1, 2015, which combines the contents of the coats of arms of the previous municipalities. His description is:
- "A red ointment vessel in a golden shield with a red inner rim, which is covered with eight golden beech leaves."
The new municipal coat of arms was designed in accordance with the Styrian regional government in such a way that “if possible, both municipal coats of arms are retained in the new coat of arms”.

Buch-Geiselsdorf listed "In a red shield four golden beech leaves growing cross-shaped from a common origin ." (The speaking beech leaves for the four parts of the community, red for the founder of Geiseldorf , Gisela von Assach, Gisela Geisel in the sense of martyrdom ). The coat of arms was awarded in 2001.
St. Magdalena carried "a silver ointment vessel in a red shield with a silver inner rim , which is covered with green clover leaves ." (The saints attributes of St. Mary Magdalene and Patrizius ). The coat of arms was awarded in 1988.
