Altenmarkt bei Fürstenfeld was a municipality with 1133 inhabitants (as of October 31, 2013) in the judicial district of Fürstenfeld or the political district of Hartberg-Fürstenfeld in Styria and is now a district of the city of Fürstenfeld . As part of the municipal structural reform in Styria , Altenmarkt and Übersbach were incorporated into the city of Fürstenfeld in 2015, based on the Styrian Municipal Structural Reform Act. A challenge to the merger, which was brought by the municipality to the Constitutional Court , was unsuccessful.

Altenmarkt bei Fürstenfeld is located in Feistritztal near the former district capital Fürstenfeld in Styria.

The municipal area comprised the following three cadastral communities and towns of the same name (residents as of January 1, 2020, area 2015):
- Altenmarkt near Fürstenfeld (1,239.75 ha; 625 Ew.)
- Speltenbach (313.18 ha; 144 Ew.)
- Stadtbergen (447.05 ha; 328 Ew.)
Incorporations
On January 1, 1968, the municipalities of Altenmarkt bei Fürstenfeld, Speltenbach and Stadtbergen were merged to form the municipality of Altenmarkt bei Fürstenfeld.
history
The parish village of Altenmarkt was built by the middle of the 12th century at the latest. It was first mentioned in 1233 as the “antiquum forum” (old market). Since then, the Order of St. John had extensive possessions in this parish. The village church consecrated to St. Donatus used to be an important pilgrimage to Mary.

The last mayor of the community was Christian Sommerbauer from the ÖVP.
