Altenmarkt parish church near Fürstenfeld
The Roman Catholic parish church Altenmarkt bei Fürstenfeld is located in Altenmarkt bei Fürstenfeld in the municipality of Fürstenfeld in the Hartberg-Fürstenfeld district in Styria . The parish church of St. Donatus belongs to the Waltersdorf dean's office in the Graz-Seckau diocese . The church is under monument protection with the rectory and the Messnerhaus .
history
The church was built after 1234, in this year the village of Altenmarkt was donated to the Johannitern . The church was initially called Maria in der Au . It was a Marian pilgrimage church in the Middle Ages and early modern times. The parish of Altenmarkt was established in 1686, the church may have been rededicated during this time.
The parish is now the Sovereign Military Order of Knights , Grand Priory of Austria (Styria delegation) incorporated , is under the patronage of Malta Coming Furstenfeld , run by the Vincentians in Austria , with provincial seat in Mission Graz care.
The parish also includes the chapels of St. Rochus in Maierhofen (municipality of Großwilfersdorf) and St. Susanna in Speltenbach (Altenmarkt).
architecture
The building was originally a Romanesque hall building with a west tower . Around 1300 an early Gothic choir was built , a yoke with a five- eighth end , with ribbed vaults and carved keystones . This building was redesigned in Baroque style and today has an onion helmet and a simple exterior in Seitenstettner yellow with corner blocks .
Inside there is a Gothic fresco that was only uncovered in 1985/86 , was dated to the beginning of the 14th century and is executed in a Romanesque-Gothic transition style. The spatial concept in red stars on a blue background on the vaults and spandrels shows representations of the Annunciation to Mary , the Shepherd Annunciation , the Birth of Christ and the Adoration of the Magi , on the south wall are St. Catherine of Alexandria with the wheel and St. Barbara with identifiable from the chalice, otherwise fragmented representations of saints can be found around a central figure.
