The market town of Pinggau with 3164 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2019) is located in north-eastern Styria ( Austria ) in the judicial district of Fürstenfeld and in the political district of Hartberg-Fürstenfeld at the foot of the change .
geography
Pinggau is located approx. 20 km north of the district capital Hartberg in the northeast of the district. The municipality is traversed by the Pinka , a tributary of the Raab . The Pinka rises in the extreme northwest of the municipality, which is drained by numerous tributaries.
Pinggau is bounded in the north by the change and has its highest elevations there with the Niederwechsel (1,669 m), the Irrbühel (1,423 m), the Windhag (1,395 m) and the Hochkogel (1,314 m). To the east, the municipality drops off towards the Pinka. Pinggau has grown together with its neighboring town Friedberg . The municipal boundary between the two town centers is therefore very confusing and is not clearly visible to outsiders.
The municipality borders in the north on Lower Austria ( Mönichkirchen ) and in the south on Burgenland ( Pinkafeld ).

history
An early toll booth proves that Pinggau was an old road junction and that the neighboring town of Friedberg was only built to protect it. Nevertheless, Pinggau and its church were first mentioned in 1377.
When the community was formed in 1849, the community area encompassed the current extension from Schaueregg in the north to Sinnersdorf on the former Hungarian border in the south. The exception is the cadastral municipality of Sparberegg , which came to Pinggau from Schäffern on January 1, 1969 .
The leadership of the designation market community was awarded on June 11, 1931 by the Styrian state parliament.

“A golden shield in which the scene of the lamentation of the body of Christ removed from the cross is depicted on a golden pedestal. Three saints seated behind the corpse: in the middle the Mother of God, on the right the Apostle John, on the left Mary Magdalene. The Mother of God, dressed in a red robe, a blue gold-trimmed cloak, a white main scarf and a neck scarf of the same color, supports the erect upper body of Christ's body with her right hand and holds his left arm with her left hand. St. John, dressed in a green robe with gold cuffs and a red, gold-trimmed cloak, supports Christ's head with both hands. St. Mary Magdalene, clad in a red-green robe and her head covered with a white cloth, holds in her right hand a golden vessel for anointing oil; her left arm is straightened.
