course

The source of the Pinka (official water number of Styria: 2947) is located at the foot of the Niederwechsel ( 1480  m ) in the area of the cadastral community Schaueregg in Styria , on the Vorauer Schwaig . The further course of the river goes in a south-easterly direction through Burgenland , where the Pinka near Eisenberg changes several times between Austrian and Hungarian national territory. Between Woppendorf , Burg and the Hungarian border, the river has dug a deep river bed into the hilly landscape. The stony cliffs can be described as unique in southern Burgenland. Especially from the Austrian side of the gorge in the Schandorf Forest there is a wonderful view over the course of the river. Finally, the Pinka flows into the Raab south of Körmend (Hungary).

The tributary Tauchbach flows into the Pinka in Burg. The river is also the namesake of the Pinka Valley , which stretches in southern Burgenland from Pinkafeld to Eberau . On the Pinka are the places Pinggau , Pinkafeld, Oberwart , Rotenturm , Riedlingsdorf and Jabing , as well as small villages like Sinnersdorf .

In the 19th century , Tschermak and Böhm named Irrbichl, Schwarzbach (today: Schwarzenbach , Gewässernr. 5144), Kogelbach, diving (today: divingbach , 4154) and Schäferbach (today: Schäffernbach , 3763) as tributaries .
