Neudau is a market town with 1490 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in the judicial district of Fürstenfeld or Hartberg-Fürstenfeld district in Styria ( Austria ). On January 1, 2015, their area was expanded to include part of the neighboring municipality of Limbach bei Neudau ( cadastral municipality Unterlimbach). The basis for this is the Styrian municipal structural reform .

Economy and Infrastructure

Yarn factory

Founded as a mechanical spinning mill in the neighboring Burgau (Styria) in 1789, yarn production was expanded to Neudau in 1845, where historic factory buildings from 1850 still exist today. In 1928 it was converted into a stock corporation and a modernization process began in the early 1960s. The company Borckenstein GmbH (since July 24th 2010) merged in January 2013 with the Italian Fil Man Made Group srl, based in Signoressa di Trevignano and production facilities in Italy, Portugal, Turkey and China. The Fil Man Made Group took over the majority share, EOSS Industries remained a minority shareholder. The group has around 1000 employees and expects sales of EUR 180 million in 2013. Synthetic and natural fibers are processed using rotor, ring spinning and vortex air jets. A large number of yarn and twisted yarn qualities are produced on 25,000 spindles. Borckenstein processes cellulose fibers from various manufacturing processes (Viscose, Lyocell; Tencel, Modal) from Lenzing AG , Upper Austria. 286 employees with a high average age work in Neudau. On February 10, 2016, the company filed for insolvency with the civil court. The annual turnover was most recently € 55 million, after losses since 2012 the over-indebtedness was most recently € 7.5 million. The aim is to continue without self-administration and a 20 percent creditor quota within two years. In mid-February 2019, the company slipped back into bankruptcy.

traffic

Neudau is away from the main roads. The south autobahn A2 from Vienna to Graz is around nine kilometers away and can be reached via the Sebersdorf / Bad Waltersdorf junction (126). The Stegersbacher Straße B 57a to Fürstenfeld , which runs in neighboring Burgenland, is about four kilometers away, the Güssinger Straße B 57 from Oberwart to Güssing , also from Burgenland, is about eight kilometers away.

Neudau no longer has a railway connection after the Bierbaum – Neudau branch line of the Thermenbahn was shut down on December 12, 1987 and has since been dismantled. The closest train station is in Bad Waltersdorf and offers access to the Thermenbahn with two-hour regional train connections to Vienna and Fehring .

The Graz Airport is around 70 kilometers away.
