Hackerberg is a municipality with 368 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in Burgenland in the Güssing district in Austria .

The Hungarian place name of the municipality is Vághegy . The Croatian name of the church is often mistakenly as Stinjacki Vrh - which means as much as Stinatzer tip or better Stinatzer Mountain - called. However, this is only the Croatian name for a district, which was mainly settled by Croatians from Stinatz.

The community is located in southern Burgenland. Hackerberg is the only village in the municipality. Other places are Csarhäuser and Stinatzer Berghäuser .

history

Like all of Burgenland, the place belonged to Hungary (German-West Hungary) until 1920/21 . Since 1898 had due to the Magyarization of the government in Budapest of Hungarian name Vághegy be used. After the end of the First World War, after tough negotiations, German-West Hungary was awarded to Austria in the Treaties of St. Germain and Trianon in 1919. The place has belonged to the newly founded federal state of Burgenland since 1921 (see also the history of Burgenland ).

Parish council

In addition to Mayor Karin Kirisits (ÖVP) and Vice Mayor Andreas Grandits (SPÖ), Franz Bauer (ÖVP) is also a member of the municipal board.

After the resignation of Emil Grandits (ÖVP), who had been mayor since the separation of the Hackerberg community from the large community of Ollersdorf on April 5, 1991, on November 15, 2016, Kirisits was elected as the new head of the community by the local council on December 12, 2016 and on The following day by district chief Nicole Wild sworn in. Kirisits is the first female mayor of the Güssing district.

In the direct mayor election on October 1, 2017, Kirisits had to compete against Andreas Grandits (SPÖ), who had already stood as a candidate in 2002 and 2007 and has been the municipality's deputy mayor since 2002. Grandits lost 37.06% of the vote to the incumbent mayor, who achieved 62.94%. Grandits was again elected vice mayor in the constituent meeting of the municipal council.

The head of the municipal office is Norbert Riedl.
