geography
The market town of Ollersdorf in Burgenland is located in the thermal region of southern Burgenland directly on the north-south federal highway 57 between Oberwart and Güssing. The place is divided into two halves by the Strembach .
Community structure
The districts of Anger, Bergen, Graben, Hocheck, Sauberg and Waldsiedlung also belong to the village of Ollersdorf in Burgenland.
history
In 1333 Ollersdorf was mentioned for the first time, but under a different name. From 1400 to 1600 the name forms "Araand", "Aran", "Arad", but mostly "Arand" were found. From 1609 the place got its current name Ollersdorf. The colloquial form is "Ullisdorf" or "Ullaschdoaf".
Over 200 years (around 1549) later, Count Franz Batthyany owned eight farms and a mill in the area. At the beginning of the 17th century, the original settlement was destroyed by the Haiduken . This was east of today's place. In 1609 the new founding in Stremtal took place under the name "Ollersdorf" and in 1760 the school was built. In the middle of the 19th century, in 1862, the possessions of Count Batthyany in Ollersdorf were bought up by the municipality.
Like all of Burgenland, the place belonged to Hungary (German-West Hungary) until 1920/21 . Since 1898 had due to the Magyarization of the government in Budapest of Hungarian name Barátfalva be used. After the end of the First World War , after tough negotiations, German-West Hungary was awarded to Austria in the Treaties of St. Germain and Trianon in 1919. The place has belonged to the newly founded federal state of Burgenland since 1921 (see also the history of Burgenland ).
In 1926 the electrification of the districts of Dorf and Anger began. During the Second World War (1939–1945) Ollersdorf was a frontline area. The Strembach Bridge was blown up, seven houses burned down and some local residents died. After the war, the occupation time in the Soviet zone followed from 1945 to 1955 . During this time, the main road was expanded and the armory and community center rebuilt (1950–1952). In 1971 the municipalities were amalgamated with Hackerberg and Wortberg, in 1974 the kindergarten was opened, in 1976 the athletes 'home and the new kindergarten were completed, in 1977 the morgue was built and the musicians' home was inaugurated.
Further construction measures were taken: the conversion of the elementary school, a church extension with church tower renovation (1981/82), the extension of the parish hall and the establishment of a post office (1986/87), the renovation of the church (1993-1994) and an extension in 1995 and 1996 respectively the athletes' home, the construction of tennis courts and the groundbreaking ceremony for the golf course. In 1991 Ollersdorf was raised to a market town. In 1991 the larger community was dissolved; Hackerberg and Wortberg became independent communities.
On February 8, 2004, there was a momentous explosion in the fire brigade and community center. It was triggered by a spark jumping over a leaky gas bottle. The damaged buildings had to be demolished. In 2006 the new building of the fire brigade and community center including a doctor's office was opened.
