The parish church Pinggau - also pilgrimage church Maria Hasel - is located in the market town of Pinggau in the Hartberg-Fürstenfeld district in Styria . The parish church consecrated to the Sorrowful Mother of God belongs to the dean's office Vorau of the diocese of Graz-Seckau . The church and the churchyard are under monument protection ( list entry ).

history

A church was documented in 1377. In 1968 the pilgrimage church Maria Hasel was elevated to a parish church.

The choir has been preserved from the first church. The rest of the church was built in two phases in the first half of the 18th century. 1967 was a restoration. 1982 an exterior restoration.

architecture

The one-bay choir with a five-eighth end has stepped buttresses, the barrel vault, the windows, the wall structure and the sacristy extensions were created during the construction of the nave. The three-bay long house under a needle cap barrel on belts on simple pilasters and side arms extending from the third yoke was built from 1703 to 1706 according to the plans of the Vorau monastery master builder Andreas Strassgietl. The western front with the tower was added in 1749/1750. The nave facades show themselves with pilasters and a cornice zone, with ox eyes over rectangular windows with triangular gables.

From 1913 to 1923 exposed frescoes in the Vierungsjoch and in the side arms with the signature Johann Cyriak Hackhofer 1718 show scenes from the Passion and emblems, in the Vierung two scenes from the history of the pilgrimage site and prophet, on the fron arch the coat of arms and the chronogram 1718. The Representations include rich ornaments and illusionistic architectural frames. The weaker frescoes in the choir were probably created by a student.

Furnishing

The church has a good baroque interior. The high altar from 1767 was attributed to Johann Ferdinand Schellauf. The miraculous image of the Lamentation of Christ was created around 1520. The magnificent pulpit, influenced by Vorau, with a plastic representation of the transfiguration of the Lord around 1730 was attributed to Josef Schokotnigg . The altars in the side arms as a combination of sculptures and background frescoes are designed as in the church of Festenburg Castle , on the right the Descent from the Cross according to Rubens , on the left a crucifixion group with figures probably by Gabriel Niedermayr and Andreas Schellauf, each in combination with frescoes by Johann Cyriak Hackhofer.
