Meistersinger (seal of approval)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Meistersinger is a seal of approval for Styrian schools that do exemplary school choir work and create good conditions for school choirs. The seal of quality has been awarded since 2011 by the Styrian Choir Association and the State School Council at elementary , secondary and higher schools as well as at music schools and special forms of school. The rating is valid for one calendar year.

idea

Due to shorter hours in the Austrian school system, the artistic subjects and thus also the choral and singing education in schools are being cut. The seal of approval distinguishes schools that send a visible mark to the outside world (parents and public) and to the inside (school community) with their award. The public presence is intended to improve and secure the work of the school choirs in the long term.

The Styrian project Meistersinger has achieved a role model effect across Austria since its inception, so that other federal states take over or want to take over the project idea. So is z. For example, the federal state of Carinthia followed the Styrian example and launched the “Singing, sounding school” project in 2015.

execution

The schools apply every year using a questionnaire and after evaluating this, the recipients are selected by a jury. Criteria are:

  • the permanent existence of a school choir ,
  • the integration of the choir lessons in the timetable ,
  • statistical data and didactic concepts,
  • activities to be demonstrated outside and inside the school,
  • Quality assurance in the form of advanced training for choir directors and singers,
  • Future prospects of the choir.

The official, ceremonial awarding of the seal of approval takes place in March of the current calendar year. It consists of a certificate, an outside sign, which is attached to the outside of the school, and Mastersingers' medals for all choir singers. The seal was awarded to 162 Styrian schools in the year of the 2017 campaign.
