history
The place name Schmalegg was first mentioned in 1148 as Smalunekke , around 1152 as Smaluneko , and in 1242 as Smalnegge . As early as 1244, next to Schmalegg Castle of the ministerial family of the Lords of Schmalegg, a suburbium is mentioned, which was presumably located on the site of today's village.
Via the Counts of Werdenberg , the place came to the imperial city of Ravensburg in 1413 and was a bailiwick of the imperial city until 1802. On January 29, 1677, Ravensburg pledged the rule and Vogtei Schmalegg for an initial amount of 25,000 florins, later an additional 11,000 florins for 20 years to the Weingarten monastery and redeemed Schmalegg again in 1697.
In 1802, with the mediatization of the imperial city of Ravensburg , the place came first to the Kingdom of Bavaria , then in 1810 to the Kingdom of Württemberg . In 1826 the municipality of Schmalegg was formed from the main town of Schmalegg and the surrounding residential areas within the Ravensburg Regional Office. On January 1, 1972, Schmalegg was incorporated into Ravensburg as part of the community reform.
politics
As the “residential district of Schmalegg”, the village is one of the 32 Ravensburg municipal councils. This is chosen in a " false sub-location ".
The local council of Schmalegg has 10 members. A city official appointed by the municipal council in agreement with the local council acts as the mayor and chairman of the local council. The responsibilities of the local council result from the main statute of the city of Ravensburg.
The Christian Democratic Union (CDU), Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen (GRÜNE) and independent elected officials are represented in the local council.
coat of arms
The community of Schmalegg had a coat of arms from 1951 to December 31, 1971, which shows a double hook based on the medieval coat of arms of the Lords of Schmalegg and two elongated "upper corners", which symbolize the place name as "narrow corners". The coat of arms has not been used officially since it was incorporated into Ravensburg. However, it is still used unofficially by the village of Schmalegg.
Description of coat of arms : A black double hook in gold, raised by a right and left black upper corner .
Partnerships
The village of Schmalegg has been in partnership with Sankt Magdalena am Lemberg (Styria, Austria) since 1977 . This community became Buch-St. In 2013 with a neighboring community . Magdalena united. The new church will probably continue to maintain the partnership.
Religions
Like the entire Ravensburg region, Schmalegg is Roman Catholic. The parish is the seat of the parish of St. Nikolaus , which belongs to the Ravensburg deanery as part of the Ravensburg-West pastoral care unit.
The Protestants in Schmalegg are members of the community of Diaspora -Gemeinde Wälde Winter Bach (decanal Ravensburg).

Culture and sights
Townscape
The townscape of Schmalegg is characterized by the directly adjacent buildings parish church - school - town hall . Below the "earthly trinity", as this combination is also mockingly called, lies a large village square with the multi-purpose hall Ringgenburghalle . Residential areas of the 20th and 21st centuries follow.
Otherwise, the image of the village next to the Schmalegger Tobel landscape protection area is characterized by agricultural land, small hamlets and individual farms.
Buildings
Castle ruins in the Schmalegger Tobel
In the Schmalegger Tobel are the ruins of Schmalegg Castle on the Schlossbüchl, the prehistoric ramparts Ringgenburg , the ramparts on the Adelegg and the Zangeburg .
Parish Church of St. Nicholas
Historicist church from 1861, built in place of a previous building from 1702. The only preserved original equipment is an organ from 1864, as op. 29 one of the oldest preserved organs from the renowned manufacturer Gebrüder Link in Giengen an der Brenz .
It is almost completely preserved, but the tin prospect pipes were replaced with cheap zinc sheets during the First World War .
In 1992 the two-manual organ with ten registers was "rediscovered" in the course of a church renovation and renovated by the still existing company, again receiving pewter prospect pipes. After the Holzhey organ in Weißenau , it is considered the most important historical organ in the urban area of Ravensburg.
The organ impresses with a sound that is optimally adapted to the room and a precisely playable mechanical action. The individual registers are switched on and off via the cone store. In addition to the basic registers, there is a fixed combination available (via footrests), all of which in the upper unit, in addition to two couplers (hand pulls; II / I and I / P (and a combination of both couplers II / I, II / P, I / P)) three, activates the three 8 'registers in the Hauptwerk and all two registers in the pedal. In the HW there are Principal 8 ', Flute 8', Salicional 8 ', Principal 4' and Mixtur 3-fold 2 ', in the OW Flute register 8', 4 'and 2' and in the pedal that goes from C to C ', 8 'and 16'.
