The castle Schmalegg even taverns Burg called, is a Outbound hilltop castle on the 555 m above sea level. NN high Schlossbüchl in the Schmalegg district of the city of Ravensburg in Baden-Württemberg .
The castle was built in the 12th century by the Schmalegg taverns , a Guelph and later Hohenstaufen ministerial family , burned down in the Thirty Years War in 1647 and then used as a quarry. In the 13th century the castle was also the ancestral seat of the minstrel Ulrich von Winterstetten .
investment
The "Schmale Eck" marked in the name Schmalegg is a promontory protruding into the ravine, on which the old village of Schmalegg, the Schlosshalde, is still located today. The closely spaced courtyards here formed a bailey to the actual castle of the knight family, built on a cone of land projected into the ravine. This was separated from the outer bailey by a drawbridge . Since the castle is a chapel of St. Nicholas, it could not have been small. The outer bailey probably also had a fortification that separated it from the adjacent plateau.
All that remains of the former castle complex is a deep saddle, which represents the former moat .
Coat of arms of the Knights of Schmalegg
The coat of arms of the Knights of Schmalegg is described as a triangular shield, inclined to the right , which shows a structure lying on a gold background, which can be interpreted as a wolf tang or wall hook . On the upper left corner of the shield sits a pot helmet from which a bent horn protrudes. The horn carries three small shields which in turn show the wall hook and are each set with three peacock feathers. From this coat of arms the earlier municipal coat of arms of Schmalegg was derived.
