Gustav Merk

Gustav Merk (born August 4, 1874 in Riedlingen , † 1954 in Altshausen ) was a German Roman Catholic clergyman and archivist .

Life

Merk was ordained a priest in 1901. In addition to his pastoral work, including in Tunau near Kressbronn on Lake Constance, he was repeatedly active in municipal and church archives. For years he was part-time city archivist in Ravensburg , where he organized the hospital archive and in 1907 indexed it in finding aids that are still in use in the Ravensburg city archive today.

Merk processed parish and community archives in the Oberschwaben / Swabian Alb area and published repertories on them. He also published essays and editions in regional history magazines.
