location

The hamlet of Tunau is about two kilometers southwest of the center of Kressbronn. In the north is the district of Reute , to the west Schnaidt , and in the south Lake Constance forms the natural border.

history

Around 1260, the area of what is now Tunau was designated as the property of the Prince Abbey of St. Gallen .

Countess Maria Anna Leopoldine von Montfort was born "von Thun". In 1728 she donated a chaplaincy to the chapel located here and acquired an estate. In her honor, the hamlet previously known as Ettenried in Tunau was renamed.

St. Joseph's Chapel

St. Joseph's Chapel

The St. Josef's Chapel, commissioned by Count Hugo von Montfort, is on the cycle path towards Kressbronn. It was consecrated in honor of the saints Joseph and Joachim on October 17, 1659 by the Bishop of Constance Franz Johann Vogt von Altensumerau and Prasberg . On December 15, 1716, the St. Joseph Brotherhood was established and the keeping of the Holy of Holies in the house of God began. On the ceiling of the chapel there is a painting depicting the death of St. Joseph. For a long time the chapel and chaplaincy belonged to the parish of St. Martin in Langenargen, but in 1957 they came to the Kressbronn parish of St. Maria - Help of Christians. In 1974 the Joseph Chapel was renovated. In addition to the figures of the namesake and the Mother of God, a figure of Mary and John has since been on display.

Bells

A small bell was installed when the chapel was built. Two more bells were added in 1886, but fell victim to the First World War in 1917 . During the Second World War , the remaining bell had to be melted down for the armament . In the early 1980s three new bronze bells were cast. They bear the inscription " Resurrexit Halleluja - Ave Maria - Go to Joseph ".

Memorial plaques

In the chapel there are two plaques with the names of the men from Tunau, Reute and Gohren who remained in the world wars: the eight “unforgettable victims” of the World War 1914/1918 and the eleven “dead heroes” from 1939/1945.

traffic

As a town located directly on the lake, Tunau is also a stop on the Lake Constance cycle path , the D-Route 8 long-distance cycle path and the Lake Constance circular path . There is a motorhome parking space in the village, as well as a spacious beer garden and a hotel.

Others

Look - the frame at Tunau

Below Tunau, on the way to Schnaidt, there was a framework for the look-a- friend until 2012 . Have a look is a landscape framework campaign that was installed in 2006 by the Baden-Württemberg State Farmers' Association (LBV). The aim of the campaign was to draw attention to landscapes and to sharpen the viewer's eyes for them. The President of the Farmers' Association, Gerd Hockenberger , commented on this campaign on May 30, 2006: “The partially lost appreciation for what has become natural should be awakened again. The view through the frame shows what the viewer see every day, but no longer consciously perceive it. ” With the campaign, the farmers also wanted to draw attention to their own, landscape-defining achievements.
