The butterfly tramete ( Trametes versicolor , also known as Coriolus versicolor or Polyporus versicolor ), also known as the colorful tramete or butterfly spore , is a common wood-dwelling fungus from the family of stem sporrows .

features

The butterfly tramete forms 2–6, in exceptional cases also up to 8 cm wide flat consoles to rosette-shaped hats. The fruiting bodies are usually in large groups on the substrate, they can be attached like a stalk or run down a little on the substrate, the attachment point is up to 3 mm thick. The fine, velvety top of the relatively thin hats is always zoned in bright colors, the color spectrum ranges from light to dark brown, olive, bluish and reddish tones can also be present. The growth zone is set off in white, the edge of the hat fluttery, wavy, somewhat notched and sharp. There are silky-shiny blue to black zones on the hat surface. The white underside of the hat is covered with fine (3–5 per mm), rounded, angular pores.

Species delimitation

The butterfly tramete differs from the similar zone tramete ( Trametes ochracea ) in the silky, shiny zones of the hat surface, which the zone tramete lacks, as well as the thin growth points that can be up to 10 mm thick in the zone tramete . Since the Butterfly Tramete is a very variable species, it is not always easy to separate it from the Zone Tramete and sometimes also from the Striegelige Tramete .

ecology

Butterfly Tramete on dead wood. Growth shape and colors are reminiscent of a butterfly.

The butterfly tramete is a common saprobiontic wood dweller or weak parasite , its main substrate in Central Europe is the common beech , less often on oak , birch , common hazel and willow . In addition, the butterfly tramete can be found on many other hardwoods, not infrequently also on coniferous wood. It grows on stumps, piles of wood, lying trunks, branches and twigs. The fungus can be found in all forest types in Central Europe, and also outside of forests if a suitable substrate is available. The fruiting bodies are annual, the species can be found all year round, in Central Europe fresh fruiting bodies appear mainly from late May to August.

distribution

The butterfly tramete is probably cosmopolitan. In Central Europe it is one of the most common Porlingen and can be found everywhere.

meaning

The butterfly tramete is not an edible mushroom and is considered inedible. It can become harmful when stored or built-in wood, such as support beams in mines or railway sleepers, is attacked. The mushroom, known in China as Yun Zhi [雲芝], is used in traditional Chinese medicine. It is supposed to strengthen the immune system. It is believed that its polysaccharides are the most effective ingredients. The floristic uses the colorful Trameten for jewelry purposes, in the form of brooches and buckles. For some time in Paris it was liked to be put on hats.
