German Josef Krieglsteiner (born September 8, 1937 in Luditz , Czechoslovakia , † December 5, 2001 ) was a German mycologist . His botanical-mycological author's abbreviation is “ Krieglst. ".

Life

The son of a teacher couple studied biology and music at the Schwäbisch Gmünd University of Education until 1961 and then worked as a secondary school teacher. Then he was appointed as a specialist teacher for didactics of biology at the Pedagogical University of Schwäbisch Gmünd .

In addition to his professional activity, Krieglsteiner was one of the most prominent mycologists in Germany and Central Europe. He turned to this research area only in the mid-1960s. In 1967 he and two other mycologists founded a fungal study group in Schwäbisch Gmünd and from 1971 was one of the most important officials of the German Society for Mycology (DGfM) . From 1974 to 1993 he was the editor of the journal for mycology published by the DGfM . Between 1985 and 1994, Krieglsteiner was chairman of the DGfM and then its honorary chairman. German J. Krieglsteiner had five children with his wife Heidi. His son Lothar Krieglsteiner is also a mycologist.

Krieglsteiner's main research area was the distribution and ecology of large mushrooms . He was also the initiator and main processor of the distribution maps of the large mushrooms in the Federal Republic of Germany. In his work atlas of the distribution of large mushrooms in Germany , an attempt was made for the first time to document the occurrence of mushrooms in raster maps . Outstanding is the edition of the series Die Großpilze Baden-Württemberg (together with Andreas Gminder , Armin Kaiser and Wulfard Winterhoff), which was published in five volumes.
