Large mushroom

Large mushrooms or macromycetes are unsystematic names for mushrooms whose fruiting bodies are macroscopically, that is to say with the naked eye, easily recognizable. This includes most of the representatives of the mushroom mushrooms and some types of ashlar mushrooms . The southern German, Austrian and Swiss expression " Schwammerl " and similar names largely correspond to the definition of a large mushroom.

Dörfelt and Jetschke understand macromyzetes to be mushrooms whose fruiting bodies exceed 5 mm in any dimension. They consider the boundary to be arbitrary. The authors define 5 mm to 5 cm large fruit bodies as small, from 12 cm they are considered large and between 5 and 12 cm they are classified as medium. All dimensions are average values ​​and not extreme values. The macromyzetes stand opposite the micromyzetes . Dörfelt and Jetschke understand this to mean mushrooms that do not develop any fruit bodies or only develop fruit bodies up to 5 mm in size on average.
