The hamlet of Obermühle is located on the Nonnenbach , around one and a half kilometers northeast of the center of Kressbronn between the other districts and hamlets of Arensweiler , Retterschen , Gattnau and Mittelmühle .

The water of the Nonnenbach, which rises near Achberg , used to be used to drive the upper mill. Its valley between Kressbronn and the Bavarian state border is designated as a landscape protection area " Lake District and Hill Country South of the Argen and Nonnenbachtal ". The purpose of protection is to preserve the beauty and uniqueness of the hilltop landscape with the embedded brook valley and the wooded hills in their scenic diversity. This area with the alternating agricultural use through meadows, pastures, arable and fruit-growing areas is to be preserved and secured in its recreational value.
